5 Ways to Transform Your Old Website into A Lead Generation Tool
By Chris Graham
A few years ago, you invested a few thousand dollars into a website. Maybe you hoped it would generate sales or at least generate a few much-needed leads. Perhaps it was your way of telling the world, “Hey, we are a legitimate business.”
Regardless of why you did it, today it sits there collecting proverbial “dust”.
Did you know an outdated web site can hurt sales?
Most likely, your company website is filled with outdated information and is doing more harm to your business than good.
Don’t fret.
The life your website lived is about to be revitalized!
How do you breathe life into your company website?
Messaging. Well defined messaging will convert leads into sales. Kent Billingsley, President of The Revenue Growth Company, was recently quoted as saying,
"Your message is a compelling story that connects emotionally and logically to why someone should engage with you and your company. Without a powerful message – your business basically doesn’t exist."
Landing pages. During your website transformation, create landing pages and build several variations of them. Each landing page should convince your visitors to engage in your site.
Without a well-defined landing page, you will struggle to collect information from the people visiting your website resulting in fewer potential leads in which to market.
Optimization. Every business should invest time in SEO. It’s not a big secret a well-optimized site will get noticed by the major search engines. I recommend using sites like SEOquake.com and Moz and utilize their browser extensions to help you navigate search engine optimization.
Bonus tip: Title, caption and use description tags on all the images on your site with relevant terms. This can have a huge impact on your efforts and has been my most powerful weapon for clients to perform well in search engines.
Call to action. Visitors need to be told what to do next. Your CTA should grab their attention and entice them to click. When formulating your call to action be sure to:
- Use persuasive text
- Include strong visuals
- Create a sense of urgency
- Make it easy to find
Mailing list. While a mailing list isn’t technically a part of a website transformation, it can certainly transfer visitors into solid leads with minimal effort. Most of your competition isn’t using their mailing list effectively so the opportunities are boundless.
Use what you’ve learned with messaging and your call to action to create powerful subject lines and content.
Do some research. MailChimp is a great resource in learning how to build your mailing list using the same website transformation methods I have shared with you.
Conclusion
Transforming your website can become your most valuable lead generation tool.
Take your time and structure your messaging to attract qualified leads, create and test several landing pages to capture visitor information, use key terms when optimizing your website, write a call to action that invokes your visitor to make a decision and utilize that mailing list.
Following these steps will transform your website into the ultimate lead generation tool.
